Alumni Spotlight: Shannon Williams, 03
Shannon Williams, EKU Sociology Graduate (2003), received his Masters degree in Sociology from the University of Tennessee in 2009 and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at UT slated to defend his dissertation in Spring 2016. Since leaving EKU, he has published in three journals, most recently with the London School of Economics and Political Science (2014) with Andrew Kliman. He has also presented at numerous national and international conferences (the American Sociological Association in 2013 in New York; the Political Economy and the Outlook for Capitalism Conference in 2012 in Paris, France; and the Rethinking New Social Movements, Rethinking Marxism Conference in 2009 at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst). In 2015, Shannon was awarded the Graduate Student Research Award by the Sociology Department at the University of Tennessee. He currently works as a part-time lecturer for EKU in our criminology and sociology programs (the latter of which voted him their top student in 2003).
